Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Ruth was a small toddler when her father who was the carnival barker, passed away. The mother of the family had to work in jobs such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth grew up in the tenement area of poverty in Boston, Massachusetts, where she went to school. She quit the institution she was in after only two years to pursue a career as an actor. Her journey was not without obstacles. her chosen career path. In New York she was hired to do a photo shoot in a crime magazine however, no theatre job opportunities came up. After working as a hat-check girl at a nightclub she resigned and went back to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make ends meet with her ushering duties throughout the day, and working at night with the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. She has also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
